Agri鈥慒ood Systems in India

Course Description

Through partnership with TNAU a group of students will get to visit Tamil Nadu, India, for a 2-week hands-on learning experience, examining the agri-food and environmental issues of tropical and dryland farming in southern India (Tamil Nadu). Students must attend pre-departure travel sessions at the Agricultural Campus, submit a mini-research paper prior to departure, participate actively in the agri-food tours, and write a second paper after the trip. Travel costs, in addition to tuition, are associated with this study abroad course.

Activities Can Include:

  • Visit to Tea Estate in Coonoor, Ooty.
  • Visit to Spice Research Station in Kallar.
  • Weekend Tour; with visits to Isha Yoga Center, Perur Temple, and shopping malls.
  • Livestock Field Visit / Livestock auction in Kangeyam.
  • Field Visit to poultry farms in Coimbatore.
  • Tour of Sugarcane Research Institute and Central Cotton Research Institute.

Included: airfare, accommodations, meals, local transportation, travel and health insurance, lectures and activities, park entrance fees.

Excluded: course & tuition fees, required vaccinations and physician consults, personal purchases such as souvenirs.

Funding Assistance

Study/Work International Fund (SWIF)

Students are invited to submit an application to the Study/Work International Fund (SWIF). SWIF was established by 麻豆社 as part of the Student Assistance Program, SWIF provides financial assistance to 麻豆社 and King's students who want to take part in an international field course or study abroad. There is a maximum award of $2,000 CAD per applicant. SWIF supports study, work, or practicum placements for which 麻豆社 will give a degree credit.

Deadlines for submitting your funding application vary depending on the term of your international experience. Deadlines are as follows:

Fall: September 30

Winter: January 31

Summer: May 31
